The project’s general aim is to overcome fundamental negative emission technology (NET) knowledge gaps through disciplinary, inter-, and transdisciplinary research. The respective research approaches depend on our prior knowledge of NETs and are shaped by the extent to which it is most promising to gain novel insights from i) investigating socio-economic, regulatory and legal aspects, as well as public perception, ii) experimental and numerical modeling studies, and iii) an exchange of complementary information across disciplines, including stakeholder involvement.
The research approaches center on two core themes (CT)s: CT 1: Society and NETs and and CT 2: The earth system response to NETs. A third core theme, CT 3: Cross-cutting activities initiates and supports the mutual exchange of research results.
